Tenerife researchers working on a cancer vaccine

  http://diariodeavisos.elespanol.com/2016/12/investigadores-la-isla-trabajan-una-vacuna-pionera-cancer/

The Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology of the Canaries Higher Research Center (CSIC) is leading a project that can deal with prostate cancer, one of the typologies of this disease that affects men the world over. The deputy director of this center, Juan Ignacio Padrón, is the coordinator of the project. The project has been funded by scholarships awarded by Europe under the name Marie Curie.

The main objective of this vaccine is to use it in patients already sick and not in a preventive way, in this way the vaccine can replace chemotherapy. One of the researchers emphasized that this vaccine simply attacks the bad cells and would not produce those side effects that you suffer with chemotherapy; For example, hair loss.

The basis of the vaccine is to inject a molecule that allows reactivating the immune system to cope with cancer cells by itself. The head of the project said that one of the problems of cancer is that the cells affected by this pathology are invisible to the immune system, and therefore can not cope with it, as it does with other diseases. Therefore, the vaccine aims to activate the system so that it can fight alone against prostate cancer.

Its future use in patients, the coordinator clarified that it is still early to set a date, as the entire work process must be completed first, which can take several years. This scientific initiative is being carried out from the CSIC with the collaboration of The Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, (United States).

In my opinion, it is fascinating the advances in medicine that are nowadays; They study new diseases, their cures, their symptoms, every day the treatments are improved against in cancer etc. Therefore I think that it does not matter how long it takes you to do something but how many men will live healthy and calm. This vaccine, if it becomes feasible, could help live that 1 in 6 men who have this cancer, so I think it's great that you have different in
vestors to collaborate with the maintenance of the team and the progress in research.

Cryptozoology

It is the study of mythological animals, which they aren’t recognised as real by the science. This is because Cryptozoology doesn’t based in comply with the scientific method by not taking measurements and direct observations for draw conclusions, it’s based in what other persons said and oral traditions.

There are a lot of mythological animals in the history of the world and people years ago believed in their existence. Now we do not believe too much in its existence because there are advances in technology and science that prove that they do not exist, but not everyone believes in the new advances and thinks that these animals are real and that we are in
danger.

The most famous or important mythological animals are these:

  • The Chupacabras:The Term of Chupacabras is the name of a contemporary legendary cryptid, described as a creature that would attack animals of different species in cattle or rural áreas. It is said to exist in South America. There are a lot of  physical descriptions of the Chupacabras and someones are similar  The physical descriptions are of people who say that they saw the Chupacabras eating their animals, but nobody has been able to have proof of its existence.
chupacabras (2)
(This is what people say that they saw)

  • El Yeti: A legendary creature from the mythology of Tibet and Nepal and interpreted as a giant gorilla.  In 2008, a Japanese research group led by scientist Yoshiteru Takashi, traveled for 42 days by Dhaulagiri IV. When they arrived, they showed photos of footprints 20 cm long, and believed that the footprints were from the Yeti. But there aren’t more proofs of his existence, there are only the potos and histories.

  • The Ness Lake Monster: This is the only creature that has any evidence of its existence, but certainly there isn't proofs of this monster for a scientific reason. This is beacuse is imposible that a so big monster survives in a lake so small and with almost no food. But many local people argue in favor of its existence, however some skeptics suggest that these rumors of Nessie exist to favor to the industry of the tourism and the local folklore. Physically Nessie is a plesiosaur or some kind of aquatic dinosa

In my opinión all these animals don't exist or I don't want  to believe that exist because there are like monsters, they can hurt or kill us and this scary me. In my favor, there aren't enough proofs to admit that in the actuallity exists any of these creatures. This is because in the actuallity we have advances and we can do reserch and and find proofs, and most of people have studies and study in a school.
In the past people studied at home with their families and the histories of this mythological animals were transmitted orally in houses from generation to generation and people were very superstitious, they believe in this creatures . Another thing is that in the past there wasn't the technology that there is now.
In conlusion, this mythological animals don't exist because we don't have proofs

Qué beneficios tiene tener pesadillas?

Esta noticia es del ámbito psicológico/médico porqué habla de los sueños y su repercusión.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/28/science/how-good-is-a-bad-nights-sleep.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Fscience&action=click&contentCollection=science&region=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=8&pgtype=sectionfront&_r=1

RESUM

ASTROLOGY

Etymologically speaking it could be said that astrology studies the position and movement of the stars. It is not an exact science. It just talks about tendencies or inclinations, which man can always modify according to his will.

Astrology belongs to the knowledge of the metaphysical tradition,
It arises as a need to find a hidden order behind the confusion and chaos in the world. It has to do with the horoscope. This word comes from "hour" and "scope", meaning "observation according to the time of birth". The first conclusion we can draw from this is that the "horoscopes" of the newspapers are not true, for the simple fact that they do not take into account the hour, day, month and year of birth of each person, but only the day and the month. Therefore, it is not astrologically valid to divide people into 12 groups and pretend that all the people of Aries, for example, the same day will happen the same things.

Here we have a video that explains the origins of the Astrology:

Saying "horoscope" is the same as saying astral chart (chart of the stars). There are several types of Astral Charter, which are used by astrologers to do their studies. The basic and fundamental astral chart is the Natal Chart or birth chart.
By having your own Natal Chart, you will be able to know in what signs and in what degrees were the ten planets at the time of your birth.

Let's see the drawing of some Astral Chart:

It is estimated that in the world, 78 percent of people believe in astrology.
Currently, the scientific community considers that astrology is a pseudoscience because it doesn'tcumply the basic requirements of the scientific method.

Someone said:

"Each movement of the stars produces a vibration, and each star has its own individual movement. All the vibrations of the stars as a whole, generate a musical harmony that is known as the harmony of the universe. When you are born, the melody that is created by the tuning of the stars at that moment is fixed in your mind. Throughout your life, this will produce good health or bad health; When you live in harmony with the original musical harmony that existed at the time of your birth, then you are healthy. And, when your tuning is broken with this musical harmony, you get sick. "

"Commonly, when a child is born at six in the morning we think that the constellation that existed at that time influenced the child. But, those who know astrology in depth, say that stars do not project their influence on the child just because it is born at six in the morning. No, rather the child chooses to be born under those stars that will influence him as he wishes them to."
"The child also chooses the moment of his conception; Each soul chooses its own moment of conception. Astrology says that whatever happens on this Earth does not exist without a cause; However, we may be unaware of the causes. Your present has arisen from your yesterday, and your tomorrow will emerge from your present. Astrology also holds that what happens tomorrow is present, in a subtle way, even today. " (...)

In conclusion, I think that Astrology, through the natal chart, may be able to inform us about the material we have to carry a life we can mold to reach our perfect harmony.

Parapsychology

                           Parapsychology

It is the discipline that is dedicated to the analysis of paranormal phenomena. Its field of study are those events that can not be explained by psychology nor by the rest of the traditional sciences.
It can be described as a pseudoscience, since it does not use a scientific method.
It is divided into several branches:

  • Clairvoyance, which is considered to be the ability of some people to perceive something that is hidden from the rest.
  • Telepathy, which consists of reading the mind of another individual.
  • Telekinesis, consisting in moving any object simply with the force of the mind.
  • Reincarnation, apparitions, that is, the existence of ghosts.

Resultado de imagen de nina kulagina

I have decided to do the analysis of this pseudoscience through this world-famous example, Nina Kulagina, this Russian psychic with only 14 years and showed a range of powers, such as telekinesis, the ability to move objects. She claimed that she was always aware when she used her psychic powers, there are stories that say that she had the ability to see what people had in their pockets and that when she knew people who were sick, she could tell what illness that person was suffering.
She explained that she might be able to come to terms with it, since apparently her mother had also had psychic powers
Several experiments were done with Nina's ability to move objects with her mind, such as putting a plastic box to avoid the use of imams. In one of the experiments were 40 scientists studying the woman and considered the powers as true, since it consisted of breaking an egg in a tank full of water and she was able to separate the yolk from the white and move it to the ends of the The sensors attached to his body showed that his body temperature and heart rate had increased, as well as the intensity of his brain waves.

So on the one hand we can call it science but otherwise not.

HOLOCAUST DENIAL (pseudocience)

HOLOCAUST DENIAL
I am sure you’ve always studied in your school years the Nazi’s period in Europa. Even thought depending on the curse or the teacher, the theme could had varied a little, the main idea is clear: Hitler was a dictato that came to the govern because of his revolutionary ideas and once there, he transformed the society.
He is known for its antisemical politics that went against Jews. So he created concentrations camps where he killed massively these part of the society. This is a reallity, don’t you think?

Well, so there is a pseudocienice who refuses these afirmations. This is known as Holocaust denial (negacionimso del holocausto). It’s a school of thought that aims to interpret the Nazi’s period in Europa but  not in the known way but considering that Hitler didn’t kill any Jews or not as much as historians say. These people says that there wasn’t any type of gas cameras or investions with the goal of exterminate jews.
There are no documents or suports that support their theories.
They deffend that all the documents that have been found about Hitler era are false, they are interpretations with no objectivity of people who wanted to narrate a story for their benefits.
Some of the affirmations they made are:
- The testimonies obtained during the Nuremberg trials were obtained under torture.

- The Jews orchestrated all this pantomime to gain the sympathy of the world.

- The gas chambers used by the Nazis were actually facilities for de-worming the inmates, preserving the health of the camps, or were built by the Soviets after World War II.

Obvioulsy, it’s not considerate a science because it don’t meet the requirements of a science.

NOTICIA 3 GISELA BOADA

Married to Their Smartphones (Oh, and to Each Other, Too)
This is the title of a recent news that I’ve found in the digital newspaper “The New York Times” the 4th of November 2016. This news talks about how smartphones interfere in couples, so we can consider it’s a technology-social article.

RESUM

This article talks about smartphones in our life, but most specific, about mobile phones and the couple.

It says that there is a direct influence between the use of smartphones and the stability of the couple. Recent studies demonstrate that using it in front your partner makes the other one think you are not interested in him and it can cause bad consequences in the relationship.

Another interesting thing in the article it’s about the importance of talking with your partner before go sleeping, because this couples that do it instead of chatting or using their smartphones, are the ones who most hard relation have.
The article shows us an example of a situation where a couple argued because of the smartphone.

COMENTARI DE TEXT

Nowadays using Smartphone is something really comun, in fact…  not using it is what’s strange. So we have to learn how to use it and more important… WHEN.
Even the age, all couples communicate each other by using sms, facetime, whatsapp, Facebook Messenger… and it has its advantages and disadvantages….

In one hand, the use of smartphones makes couples be in touch at every time, and if your partner lives far from you, it’s fantastic being able to watch him in a screen. Another advantage is that these services are free, so you don’t have to pay for phoning him as people used to do some years ago… even if you are in another country, only with Wifi you can do what you want.

In the other hand, if you get used to be connected every day with the other person, you can end up obsessing. For example, if one day you don’t speak with him, you may think something had happened, even though it’s only because the other person had been doing other thinks and hasn’t got time to text you.. You don’t know, but always think the worse. It can be stressful….  In addition, people aren’t really conscientious about the big difference that there is between chatting with your partner with a screen or done it face a face… Couples need more live conversations.

To sum up, I want to do a reflection… There are couples that although they live far one from each other, they speak more face a face (with skype, facetime..) than other couples that are used to see each other every day… Because the last ones, when they arrived home, instead of talking with their partner, they decide to use the smartphone.

GLOSSARI

I haven’t found any word that could be confusing because I have used an easy vocabullary.
